Current opening - Installer

*** Sorry, position filled! ***

We plan to hire an installer soon.  Here’s what to expect if you take the job:

1. You’ll work with me or another installer until you are ready to work alone or train your own apprentice. This could take up to a year.
2. Your wages are loosely based on union carpenter scale.  Benefits include vacation, paid holidays and insurance.
3. The work is less abusive on the body than carpentry, but you will spend time in attics and crawl spaces.
4. Since we work unsupervised in our client’s homes, installers submit to drug tests and background checks.
5. We furnish the truck and tools.
6. Most jobs take 3 – 6 hours and we’ll do 1 or 2 a day.  Some days will be 5 hours, some 12.  If we’re busy, you’ll get some overtime.  When we’re slow, you’ll get some 3 day weekends.  The average week is 35 – 45 hours.
7. Most work is in the west, south west and south suburbs.  We make one or two overnight trips to out state areas each month.

8. A typical work day:  You arrive at my home in Orono (20 miles west of downtown) at 7:30, “punch in”, and start stocking the truck. We leave at 8:00 with you driving and me doing paperwork.  We install a system in Prior Lake from 9:00 – 2:00.  We stop in Edina to bid a job and at Menard's for supplies and get back to my place and “punch out” at 4:00.
9. I’ve been doing this for 18 years, and I hope to find to find someone to work with for the next 18 years.
10. To be successful at this job, you must:
a. Be a qualified framer.  Could you frame a house by yourself?  Are you confident of what’s behind the sheetrock and carpet?
b. Have a servant’s heart.  When the client asks “Can you put the pipe here?” do you say “you-becha”, even though it means moving the woodpile in the garage or working in a tight attic on a hot day?
11. I’m an evangelical born again Christian right wing conservative hunter and fisherman grandfather who keeps the jobsite radio tuned to AM 1280, AM 1500 or KTIS and you have to spend all day with me.
